At the Plattform 3 exhibition at the Kunstverein Hannover we placed a bar-style kitchen in the lobby of the venue.

The familiar, relaxed atmosphere of the kitchen, a traditional hub of every private party seems to attract people – strangers get to know each other quickly when searching for a corkscrew and everybody is able to get their bearings without difficulty.

The detailed model was based on items of bulky waste, a stove, a sink and kitchen utensils and featured self-service from the refrigerator and a voluntary cash box. The Kitchen Bar ‘overwhelmed’ existing furniture, enveloped columns and placed itself in front of windows. It superimposed itself on the existing situation.

By removing it from its private context and putting it into a public space, the kitchen’s character was enhanced and reinterpreted at the same time.
As intended the Kitchen Bar became the place to meet, have a chat about the art on show and have a drink.

The Kitchen Bar was a collaborative venture with Danasz Bourski.
